The vertically-pointed laser beam is imaged with a wide-angle lens onto the cooled CCD camera.
A continuous wave, circularly polarized , 3.5 Watt laser (532 nm) , is pointed vertically.
BJE Environmental Optics (est. 2017) is a small business developing two scientific instruments that measure particles (aerosols) in the atmosphere, as well as consulting on atmospheric science and lidar (laser radar) technology. The two instruments have been operated for research for several years, and one, the Imaging Polar Nephelometer (IPN), is patented. BJE expertise includes CCD cameras, wide-angle lenses, lasers, image processing, lidar electronics, optical detectors, and atmospheric analysis. BJE has facilities for designing, fabricating, and testing instruments, and participates in various measurement field campaigns.
